Grand Central Terminal
Manhattan: 42nd Street - Vanderbilt Avenue East 42nd Street at the N.E. corner of Vanderbilt Ave. Old Grand Central Terminal, at the northern end of Park Ave., from 42nd to 45th Streets. The view at the left is north on Vanderbilt Ave. At the right may be seen the station of the 42nd Street elevated spur from Third Ave. Immediately adjoining it on the north side of 42nd Street is the archway through which trains, bound for Madison Square via the Murray Hill-Park Ave. tunnel, used to emerage from the Grand Central. When this station was built in 1871 the railroad began by leaving the engine here and having the cars pulled down to Madison Square by horse; some years before the date of this picture even that had ceased, and this station became a terminal for all trains. At the N.E. corner of Vanderbilt Ave. and 42nd Street, notice the florist's shop and the barber's, also the two ladies carrying parasols. About 1892.
